Since I'm a tennis player (a poor one at that) and fan of the game, Michael was a stud! Just for his grit and mental toughness to keep coming back at you. He didn't have the greatest physical attributes but if you were going to beat him, you had to BEAT him. He made you work for every point you got. You gotta like that.

Unfortunately, he came up in an era where his American peers were Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Jim Courier. But the guy made a good living and did well even if the French Open was his only grand slam victory.

I would love to see some other Asian guy pick up the torch and get going. I thought that Paradorn Schrichiphan from Thailand was going to be a force. I think he topped out at #10 in the world. But with injuries and all, he's taken a lot of time off and I'm not sure what his pro status is now.
