Tibet and the Dalai Lama
I find most people completely ignorant of Tibetan history and society, and yet there are a lot of drones who jump on the "Free Tibet" bandwagon and spew out the anti-Chinese dogma like a parrot. I actually heard some dimwit girls say they don't eat at Chinese restaurants because of Tibet. Yes, you dumbasses, the poor immigrant waiter who brought you your $5.50 fried rice is oppressing Tibetan monks. Get the fuck out of here!

It was interesting. I got to shake his hand, he was a pretty self-effacing guy; no big pretense or pomp and circumstance like you'd get with the Pope or something.
But yeah, too many people are into romanticizing Tibet.
like the man says: can't we all just get along?
"The Dalai lama and the Tibet lobby is just another tool used by the white man to oppress Asians and especially Chinese."
Ah, so the Chinese are the real victims here?
And there I was thinking it was the Tibetans. Got it. Because we know China would never oppress anyone.
You should try learning a little more about the world. Your witty sarcasm alone will not make you a great conversationalist.
But if it was Europeans occupying Tibet and Xinjiang rather than China, I imagine your perspective would be quite different.
I'm not sure why embracing Chineseness needs to include an embrace of the questionable practices of the Chinese government.
Perhaps you should take a critical thinking class before responding. I like to discuss the China-Tibet issue with people as I believe it important but your ignorance and arrogance in your first post simply will not do for good discussion.
First of all, you assume that China is occupying Tibet. That is false under international law. China's claims are wholly lawful.
Second, you falsely attribute to me the belief that Tibetans don't have any justifiable complaints against Chinese rule. They do have some. You infer that from what I said about the white man using it as a pretext to oppress Chinese. Your inference doesn't logically follow.
Please try to think a little more rigorously next time.
fair point about sarcasm. Criticism accepted. What brought it on was your comment that seems to dismiss the plight of Tibetans and complain that the poor Chinese are the real victims. Which might not be what you meant, but it certainly comes across that way.
Most of the pro-Tibet grievances spewed against China are fabricated. Your initial claim that China is "occupying" Tibet is one such lie. Other lies include "Tibetan genocide" and "cultural genocide". None of these allegations have a shred of evidence supporting them.
Granted there is still quite bit of oppression against political expression inside the politically sensitive Tibetan areas. Even more so than the rest of China. That is a warranted grievance. But what is even worse is the white man using what legit ground there is to bash the Chinese for his own ends. How is that helping the Tibetans by bashing the Chinese with lies? Just because the Tibetans my suffer some grievances doesn't mean other people around the world including the Chinese aren't. That doesn't logically follow.
